Conference podcast and report available

We are happy to announce that recordings of the papers given at the conference are now available to listen through the 'Conference podcast' tab above. We are grateful for the speakers' permission to upload their papers. 

You can also read the conference report through the 'Conference report' tab above, written by one of the conference discussants, John Condren of the University of St Andrews. We are very grateful to John for his thoughtful assessment of the day. 

We are in the process of preparing the proceedings of the conference for publications. If you have any questions or queries, please contact Michael Talbot or Phil McCluskey. 

Registration Open!

For those wishing to attend the roundtable, please complete the registration form on this website. The conference is free, but we would ask attendees to register so that we can get a rough idea of numbers for catering. Lunch, tea, and coffee will be provided, but non-speaking guests will need to book their own accommodation. Non-speaking guests are also very welcome to join us for dinner, but will need to pay for this themselves. Registration will be open until 31 May 2014.

Welcome!

Welcome to the site for our forthcoming international roundtable, 'Contacts, Encounters, Practices: European-Ottoman Diplomacy, 1500-1800', which will be held at the University of St Andrews on 24 June 2014. 

We are in the early stages of putting together our programme, but we are happy to say that we have received positive confirmations from almost all of our invited speakers. We hope to have a provisional programme up here in early 2014.

This intention behind this roundtable is to explore how diplomacy was practiced between the early modern Ottoman Empire and European states, and to consider how we as historians approach such topics. We are particularly interested in networks and logistics, as well as rhetoric and material cultures.
